Fess Up Friday

Busy, busy week it's been! On Sunday, we had Landon's 3rd birthday party. I made the cake (Lego blocks with Toy Story characters as accessories to go with the toys/Toy Story theme). At Landon's request, he wanted the blocks to be purple, yellow and orange. The purple and yellow frosting turned out great. The orange was another story. First, it was too peachy. Then, when I tried to darken it, it was a peachy/grey/purplish color. I went to throw it away when Alan came into the kitchen.
"What are you doing?," he asked.
"Throwing it away," I replied.
"I'm not going to let you waste all that frosting," he said.
"It didn't turn out; I'm throwing it away."
And so begin The Great Frosting Argument. This went back and forth for quite some time until he grabbed the frosting bowl and transfered the frosting to a Tupperware container and put it in the fridge, while I pouted and stewed the entire time. I'm pretty sure at one point Landon told me, "Don't yell, Mommy" and "Don't be upset, Mommy." Kind of a ridiculous thing to fight with your spouse over, huh?

So, we had Landon's party on Sunday and while we were reading books on Sunday night, my mom noticed a lump on the side of his neck. Alan checked it out, then I checked it out. It didn't bother Landon for us to touch it, so we just figured we'd ask at his 3 year doctor's appointment about it - which happened to be the following day. The lump was a swollen lymphnode. The doctor wanted to do a strep test and if it wasn't strep, he thought it could be viral infection. He didn't seem too concerned; we didn't seem too concerned. Primarily because Landon had NO other symptoms (both he and I have been fighting colds, but who hasn't this winter season?!?). So, we maintained our routine. I took him to school on Tuesday and was surprised to here a voicemail message from his doctor's office relaying that Landon had strep throat. I called my mother, practically in tears, because not only did I stupidly send my son to school on Tuesday, but we also hosted a birthday party for him and some friends at our house on Sunday (oh, and we went to church on Sunday morning and he played at Legoland on Monday afternoon). Yup, just hand me over the Most Clueless Mother in the World Award right now.

Speaking of strep throat, I knew that there was a coupon for a free $10 Target gift card with a new or transferred prescription in the Target ad from the previous week. I didn't have the ad when I picked up Landon's prescription on Tuesday afternoon, but found the ad on Tuesday night before I went to the Minute Clinic at Target to get myself tested for strep. Who vocalized to her husband that she wished she had strep throat so she could use the coupon to get a free $10 Target gift card when she got her antiobiotics? Yup, me. Oh my word, I seriously sound demented (please don't agree with that statement). But, alas, I didn't get to use the coupon, because my strep test came back negative.

And, last but not least...while picking up Landon from pre-school he was having a hard time listening and obeying. I knew that I wanted to get gas and use the coupon that I had for a free cookie. I referenced this to Landon in terms of if he wasn't going to listen there were going to be consequences. When we went in to get the cookie and pay for the gas, he asked about his and I told him he wasn't going to get one because he didn't listen and obey. Tantrum ensued which included swinging at me with his arms. And so I carried him kicking and screaming out of the store. And I buckled him kicking and screaming into his car seat. And then I climbed into my seat and I ate the cookie. And made a really big deal about how good it was.
